Slim and Powerful: TECNO's New Phone Challenge
BarcelonaFri Feb 28 2025
TECNO is set to unveil the Spark Slim at MWC 2025. This phone is incredibly thin, measuring just 5. 75mm. It's not just about being slim; TECNO claims it has the largest battery in a phone this thin, with a 5, 200mAh capacity. This is a big deal because most super-thin phones have much smaller batteries.
The Spark Slim is designed to compete with high-end phones like the rumored Galaxy S25 Edge. The Galaxy S25 Edge is expected to be around 6mm thick, which is slightly thicker than the Spark Slim. But the Spark Slim has a much larger battery, which is a big advantage.
The phone features a 6. 78-inch 3D Curved AMOLED display. This display has a high resolution of 1. 5K, a fast refresh rate of 144Hz, and a peak brightness of 4, 500 nits. It also has a dual rear camera setup with 50MP+50MP lenses and a 13MP front-facing camera. This makes it a strong contender in the camera department as well.
TECNO has used fully recycled aluminum and a stainless steel unibody design for the Spark Slim. This gives the phone a premium feel and look. However, the metal back might mean it won't support wireless charging. But don't worry, it does support superfast 45W wired charging.
The battery technology used in the Spark Slim is also noteworthy. TECNO mentions a "4. 04mm thick, high-density battery. " This could be silicon-carbon technology, which allows for greater energy density in smaller sizes. This technology has been used in other phones, like the OnePlus 13, which had a 6, 000mAh battery.
The phone's chipset is not yet revealed, but it's expected to be a high-performance octa-core chip. This is typical for TECNO's Spark lineup, which usually falls in the budget to mid-range category.
TECNO hasn't shared pricing or availability details for the Spark Slim yet. It's also unclear if the company plans to release it as a commercial product. The press release refers to it as a "concept smartphone. "
The trend of thin phones is not new. Samsung, Apple, and other brands are also focusing on making their phones thinner. But TECNO is showing that thinness can go hand in hand with a large battery.
This trend is exciting because it could lead to smartphones with multi-day battery life. This would be a big improvement for consumers. It's also interesting to see companies like TECNO pushing the boundaries of what's possible in smartphone design.
