SNL's Church Lady Meets Hunter Biden: What's the Fuss?
Sun Dec 08 2024
Dana Carvey dusted off his classic Church Lady character for SNL's latest cold open, where she sat down with a slew of dramatis personae, including David Spade's Hunter Biden. Spade's Biden started off saying he's been "laying low, " to which the Church Lady cheekily replied, "Well, you could've been doing a podcast. " Turns out, Spade and Carvey actually host one together.
Biden tried to defend himself by blaming his troubles on his last name, claiming he was targeted like Trump. "Well, isn't that special? " the Church Lady quipped back. The skit also touched on Biden's presidential pardon, with Biden claiming it was a "good thing" for a father to forgive his son. The Church Lady wasn't having it, reminding him that Jesus didn't turn water into crack.
Carvey has been making appearances this season, playing a confused Joe Biden, along with other figures. His Church Lady character, Enid Strict, is a fan favorite from his SNL days in the '80s and '90s.
The skit began with the Church Lady calling the past year "the most satanic in history. " She welcomed guests like Matt Gaetz (played by Sarah Sherman), who was far from repentant. "You better repent, Matt, " she advised, "there's only 17 days left in Christmas. "
The sketch ended with a musical number, "Satan Had A Good Year, " sung by the Church Lady and the cast.
