Snow and Cold: What to Expect in 8 States
USAMon Jan 27 2025
Get ready for a cold blast! Winter storm warnings are up across eight US states. Expect lots of snow, freezing rain, and maybe even a blizzard. This means roads could be really dangerous. People who are very young or old need to be extra careful because the freezing temperatures can make them sick.
California, Nevada, and Alaska are expecting the worst. California's San Bernardino Mountains might get up to 14 inches of snow. In Nevada, places like the Spring Mountains could see 8 to 16 inches. Alaska? Up to 18 inches of snow! Other states like Michigan, New York, Wyoming, and Colorado will also feel the cold.
The National Weather Service (NWS) uses different colors on their map to show where the warnings are. Pink means a storm warning, purple means an advisory, and red means a blizzard warning. A storm warning means heavy snow, while an advisory means it's not as bad, but still troublesome.
Before you head out, check the weather. Make sure to have emergency supplies like food, water, and a flashlight. Be ready for low visibility and icy roads. The NWS will keep updating us, so stay tuned!
