Snowstorm Heads for Colorado Mountains

A heavy snow forecast is set to hit the Rockies, with more than a foot of new white expected over the coming days. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory that will be active from late Sunday night until 6 p. m. Monday, covering parts of Boulder, Clear Creek, Gilpin, Grand, Jackson, Larimer, Park and Summit counties. The advisory warns of 3 to 15 inches of snow across the region.
Early Sunday predictions already listed significant accumulations. Nederland could see 3 inches, possibly up to 10. Georgetown might receive 4 inches, with a maximum of 12. Winter Park is projected to get 6 inches, perhaps reaching 11. Eldora could enjoy 7 inches, up to 14. Loveland Pass on U. S. 6 is expected to get 9 inches, with a potential of 14. Cameron Pass near Walden and Milner Pass in Rocky Mountain National Park could see as much as 21 inches. Berthoud Pass near Winter Park may accumulate 12 inches, up to 20. Mount Zirkel could receive 12 inches, with a possible total of 24.
The snow is not expected to reach Denver, though trace amounts might fall in the southern metro area. Snowfall will begin early Sunday and increase through the night, with accumulation likely continuing until Wednesday morning.
Strong winds—gusts up to 45 mph—will accompany the snow, creating dangerous travel conditions. The advisory urges caution and preparedness for those planning to drive in the mountains.
