South Carolina's Underwater World Turns 25
Charleston, South Carolina, USA,Mon May 19 2025
The South Carolina Aquarium has been a hit for a quarter of a century, with 11 million people visiting to see its 5, 000 different animals. It is located by the Charleston Harbor and shows off many unique South Carolina environments, from the mountains to the sea. The aquarium gives people a chance to see what lies beneath the water's surface, without having to be a deep-sea diver.
The aquarium's star attraction is the Great Ocean Tank. This massive tank holds 385, 000 gallons of water and is two stories tall. It is home to many marine creatures, such as sharks, fish, and sea turtles. Another popular resident is Liberty, a bald eagle who greets visitors on the second floor. Kids who visit often love seeing their favorite animals up close.
The aquarium is more than just a place to see animals. It also helps the local economy, bringing in $414 million each year. The dedicated team of experts who care for the animals plays a big role in its success. They know a lot about the species they care for, more than most people would.
The aquarium is always looking to grow and improve. Plans are in the works to expand the learning labs and exhibits in the near future. The aquarium also focuses on conservation efforts, having helped 451 sea turtles return to the wild.
The aquarium is celebrating its 25th birthday with a special deal. Until May 19, admission is only $25. This is a great chance for people to visit and see all the amazing animals and exhibits the aquarium has to offer.
