Space Samurai on the Moon: A New Twist in a Futuristic Battle

The game “SOL Shogunate” takes place on the Moon, where samurai clans fight for control in a future solar system. The studio has been working on the title for almost three years, and it will debut on PC and PS5.
The team is led by co‑founder Guy Costantini, who brings experience from big studios like CD Projekt Red and PlayStation. He joined forces with aerospace engineer Taylore McClurg to make sure the world feels believable, not just flashy.
McClurg’s role is to check the science behind every feature: bone loss in low gravity, how a space elevator could work around the Moon’s weaker pull, and why guns might be banned in favor of swords. She says she started by setting broad rules for the universe, then refined them as development progressed.
The Moon is seen as a gateway to the rest of the solar system, so many factions rely on lunar resources. The Tennoji clan manages space transport, while the Karasuma clan mines materials. Their uneasy alliance shapes the political landscape.
Gameplay focuses on fast swordplay and vertical traversal, using one‑sixth gravity to create unique moves. The designers avoided making combat a hard physics simulation, preferring fun over realism. They also plan to keep the setting surreal yet grounded by showing how advanced tech, like robotic horses with bioceramic skins, fits into a world where only the elite can control gravity.
As production moves from pre‑production to full development, the studio promises more updates. They aim to finish in about a year or two, with plans for future titles if the first one succeeds.
