An astronaut from NASA was briefly hospitalized after returning to Earth from a space mission that lasted nearly eight months. This astronaut, along with others from NASA and Russia, landed in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Florida aboard a SpaceX capsule on Friday. Most of the team was quickly released and headed back to Houston, but one NASA astronaut was kept for further medical checks. NASA hasn't shared who the astronaut is or the nature of their health issue, but they did assure everyone that the astronaut is in good health and will soon continue with the usual post-flight recovery process alongside the rest of the crew.
Space travel can be tough on the body, so these medical checks are a normal part of the process. They help NASA understand how the body responds to the unique conditions in space and how to best support astronauts after they return to Earth. The astronaut who was hospitalized might just need a little extra care to make sure they're fully recovered and ready for future missions.
