Vast Space has unveiled a cutting-edge design for its Haven-2 commercial space station, aimed at NASA’s future needs. The station is planned to be built in segments, starting in the late 2020s. Unlike their previous focus on the Haven-1 project, this new station is set to be much larger and more versatile. The first module will launch on a Falcon Heavy as early as 2028, with additional modules being added every six months. The end goal? A fully functional space lab by 2032, complete with an airlock for spacewalks.
SpaceX’s Starship will be crucial in transporting these modules. The company envisions Haven-2 supporting diverse missions and potentially even surpassing the capabilities of China and Russia’s space stations. While NASA is the primary target, Vast Space also eyes future commercial applications like in-space manufacturing. Winning NASA’s Commercial Low Earth Orbit Destinations (CLD) Phase 2 award is key to making this vision a reality.
