Sports Industry Goes Green: Circular Economy and Policy Enablers
GlobalWed Nov 20 2024
The world of sports products is known for its hefty environmental footprint. From generating lots of waste to using up resources and pumping out carbon emissions, the industry is in dire need of change. One solution that's gaining traction is the circular economy (CE). This approach aims to reduce waste and promote sustainability.
Researchers explored the best ways to adopt CE practices in the sports industry. They used methods like the Delphi technique and the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) to figure out the top enablers and scenarios. AHP results showed that rules from governments, what consumers want, and businesses taking social responsibility seriously are the big drivers for CE adoption.
Further, a method called fuzzy WASPAS ranked the most important scenarios. These included setting industry standards, creating action plans for CE, and making sure producers are responsible for their products' entire lifecycle.
This study offers valuable insights for those making policies and leading the sports industry. It guides them on how to push for CE practices and make the sports sector more environmentally friendly.
