Sri Lanka is facing a massive challenge right now. Over 150 people have lost their lives due to severe flooding and landslides caused by Cyclone Ditwah. The situation is so bad that the president had to declare a state of emergency to speed up relief efforts. Imagine, more than 20, 000 homes are gone, and around 78, 000 people are now living in relief centers.
The cyclone, which started east of Sri Lanka, is heading towards India's southern coast. But before it leaves, it's causing a lot of trouble. Roads are blocked, villages are cut off, and the death toll is expected to rise. Rescue teams are working hard to reach those in need. They've saved 69 bus passengers, including a tourist from Germany, who were stuck for a whole day.
India is helping out too. They've sent search-and-rescue teams and aid supplies. But the problem is far from over. More heavy rain is expected, which means more flooding and landslides. Schools and offices are closed, and train services are suspended. The country is on high alert.
In Colombo, the capital, things are not much better. Floodwaters from nearby districts are affecting the city. Many homes are without power, and some residents are staying on higher floors to keep their belongings safe. It's a tough time for everyone in Sri Lanka.
