Heart surgery is a big deal, and recovery can be tough. But what if adding a few balance exercises could make a difference? A recent study looked at how early balance training, along with regular rehab, affects patients who had coronary artery bypass surgery. The study involved 60 patients, all over 55 years old. Half of them did standard rehab exercises, like aerobic workouts, starting within 48 hours of surgery. The other half did the same exercises but added just 5 minutes of balance training each session. Both groups did these exercises three times a day for a week.
The results were pretty clear. The group that did balance training showed better balance, could move around more easily, and felt better overall. They also spent fewer days in the hospital. The standard rehab group improved too, but not as much. One of the best parts? No one in either group had any bad side effects from the exercises. This means that adding balance training is safe and helpful. So, why isn't everyone doing this? Maybe more hospitals need to catch on. After all, if a little balance training can make such a big difference, why not give it a try?
