Staten Island Man Charged After Series of Violent Threats

A 64‑year‑old resident of Staten Island is facing a ten‑count indictment that includes burglary, weapon possession and drug charges after police allege he threatened neighbors over several weeks. Authorities say the suspect, John Perrotta, was armed with a gun, a baseball bat, a bamboo stick and a wrench while attempting to break into homes in Prince’s Bay, Annadale, Tottenville and Great Kills. The incidents began in March and escalated through April. The first accusation involves an attempted break‑in on May 9. Video from a doorbell camera captured Perrotta holding a black handgun and kicking the front door of a house he knew. He shouted threats, called 911, and then fled when officers arrived. Police later found a Glock 19 on the defendant’s bedroom dresser, loaded with four rounds. During a separate arrest in Prince’s Bay, officers seized a plastic bag of cocaine from his pants pocket.A separate episode on April 11 saw Perrotta calling a known victim with menacing threats and later appearing at the victim’s backyard armed with a metal baseball bat. The homeowner called 911 after Perrotta rang the doorbell and shouted that the victim would be harmed. The suspect was arrested for trespassing. In early April, Perrotta allegedly stalked a neighbor in Tottenville. He was seen holding a bamboo stick and striking the victim’s mailbox and front door. The homeowner reported hearing him yelling threats before police intervened. Charges included misdemeanor mischief and harassment. On March 31, a driver’s car was vandalized in Great Kills. Police said Perrotta used a wrench to smash the rear windshield and side window, claiming he believed a relative was trapped inside. The suspect again had crack cocaine in his pocket when taken into custody. Perrotta has pleaded not guilty to all counts. He is currently held at Rikers Island with a $100, 000 bond set for bail. His next court appearances are scheduled for June 23 and July 16.
