Storm Alert Forces Early School Dismissals in Central Pennsylvania

Central Pennsylvania faces a storm warning that could bring strong winds and tornadoes. The National Weather Service has issued high wind alerts for most of the state, lasting into the evening and even until 8 a. m. Tuesday in some areas. Winter weather advisories also cover parts of the west and center of the state. \ \
Schools across several districts are acting early to keep students safe. Many have cut class times and cancelled after‑school programs. \ \
In the Cumberland Valley district, kindergarten buses leave 15 minutes early. Ninth grade, middle school and high school students leave at 12:30 p. m. , while elementary kids go home at 1:30 p. m. All afternoon activities, including a special care program, are cancelled. \ \
Camp Hill schools dismiss middle and high students at 10:56 a. m. The afternoon care program is shut down, and all evening events are cancelled. \ \
Steelton Highspire students pick up at 12:30 p. m. , buses leave at 12:45 p. m. , and walkers go home at 1:00 p. m. \ \
Central Dauphin students leave earlier too. Middle and high school kids go at 11:45 a. m. ; elementary students finish at 12:45 p. m. Lunch is served before dismissal, but all sports and committee meetings are postponed. \ \
Susquenita schools have varied times: high school students leave at 11:50 a. m. , middle school at 11:45 a. m. Car riders finish at noon, while bus riders leave later. Elementary students go home at 12:30 p. m. , with bus riders at 1:00 p. m. \ \
West Perry students leave at 12:10 p. m. for secondary grades and 1:30 p. m. for elementary grades. Pre‑K kids use their morning bus, and all after‑school activities are cancelled. \ \
Delone Catholic High School has closed its building for the day, cancelling all afternoon and evening events. \ \
Fannett‑Metal schools let high school students leave at 12:20 p. m. and elementary kids at 12:30 p. m. \ \
South Middleton dismisses secondary students at noon and elementary students at 1 p. m. The career and technical education program returns to normal transport times, but all evening activities are cancelled. \ \
St. Joseph’s School in Mechanicsburg ends the day at 12:15 p. m. , cancelling extended programs. Families are asked to confirm transport changes before 11 a. m. \ \
Waynesboro students leave at 12:30 p. m. for secondary grades and 1:30 p. m. for elementary grades, with all evening events cancelled. \ \
The Harrisburg district is watching the forecast closely and will update families on its website and Facebook if early dismissal becomes necessary. \ \
