Storm Surge Alert: Hurricane Oscar Heads East

BahamasSun Oct 20 2024
The National Hurricane Center has its eyes on two tropical systems—Hurricane Oscar and Tropical Depression Nadine. Hurricane Oscar is close to the Turks and Caicos Islands and is expected to pass near the Bahamas, the Turks and Caicos, and Cuba. It may bring heavy rain and windy conditions to these regions. After that, Oscar is predicted to turn northeast towards Cuba. Forecasts suggest that by next week, our area could face an increased risk of rip currents due to Oscar's influence. Although these storms don't pose a direct threat to Southeast Georgia or the Lowcountry, it's crucial to stay alert. Meanwhile, Tropical Depression Nadine is moving over Central America and will weaken over Mexico today. It doesn't pose a threat to the U. S. coast. The hurricane season runs until November 30, and so far, the 2024 season has had an average number of named storms but more hurricanes and major hurricanes than usual.
