Storm Watch in Alabama: Mild Threats and Heavy Rain

Alabama, USATue May 26 2026
Alabama is under a light chance of severe weather this Monday, with the Storm Prediction Center rating parts of west and south Alabama a Level 1 risk. A Level 1 means isolated storms could pop up, but large outbreaks are unlikely. The National Weather Service warned that some of these storms might bring strong winds, and a few showers could even spin enough to form a short‑lived tornado on the western side of the state. The outlook shows only a low probability of tornadoes, highlighted in green on the map. The agency said that a feature coming from the south could give just enough rotation to make a brief tornado or damaging gusts possible.
Rain is expected across the state, and flood watches are in place for many counties. In north Alabama, a watch covers Cullman, Madison and others until 10 p. m. Tuesday. Central Alabama’s watch includes a long list of counties, from Autauga to Walker, while south Alabama is under watch from Baldwin to Wilcox. Rain totals could reach up to 6 inches in some spots of southwest Alabama by Wednesday evening, helping ease the state’s ongoing drought. The U. S. Drought Monitor shows most of Alabama still in or near drought, with the hardest‑hit areas in red in south Alabama at Level 3. A new report is due Thursday, so conditions may change. Overall, the weather this week looks like a mix of mild severe threats and heavy rain that could bring relief to dry lands, but residents should stay alert for the flood watches and keep an eye on updates.
