Storm Watch in Alabama: What to Expect This Week

Alabama, USAMon Apr 27 2026
Alabama residents should stay alert as the state faces a series of storms that could bring strong winds, hail, and even tornadoes over the next few days. The National Weather Service has issued a Level 1 (marginal) warning for parts of southwest Alabama on Sunday. While the threat is low, isolated severe showers could still develop in the afternoon. The next big concern comes Monday night into Tuesday morning. A similar Level 1 risk will cover areas such as Huntsville, Cullman and Jasper from about 10 p. m. on Monday to 7 a. m. Tuesday, with the possibility of tornadoes and damaging winds. Tuesday night looks even more intense. Forecasters predict a Level 2 (slight) risk for much of northern Alabama, including Scottsboro and Decatur, from Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. This higher risk means scattered severe storms are more likely, and tornadoes could still appear.
South Alabama will see a lower Level 1 risk on Tuesday night, but the threat of hail and strong winds remains. After Wednesday morning, no major severe weather is expected for the rest of the week. However, rain will continue to fall across the state, which is welcome because Alabama is still battling a drought. Meteorologists forecast 3–4 inches of rain for northern and central regions by May 2, while the south may receive about an inch. These showers should help ease water shortages, but residents should still monitor local updates and prepare for the possibility of severe weather in the coming days.
