Stormy Days Ahead: What to Expect
South Carolina, Columbia, USAThu Jun 12 2025
Weather patterns are not cooperating this week. It is not a good time to be outside. There are weather alerts for today and Friday. Expect scattered storms, some of which could pack a punch.
The weather forecast is not great for Father's Day weekend either. There is a 40% chance of afternoon storms on both Saturday and Sunday. Temperatures will hover around the upper 80s. It is not ideal for outdoor plans, but it is not a total washout.
The Storm Prediction Center has flagged parts of the Midlands for a Marginal Level 1 out of 5 risk for severe weather. This means that one or two storms might turn severe. The main concern with these storms will be strong wind gusts.
Friday is also a First Alert Weather Day. Expect scattered to numerous storms throughout the day. A few of these storms could be strong, bringing heavy rain, frequent lightning, and heavy downpours. Temperatures will be in the mid 80s under mostly cloudy skies.
Today's weather is tricky. Most of the day will be dry, but a short wave is expected to approach late in the day. This could kick off a 50-60% chance of rain and storms. Any stronger storms could bring heavy downpours and gusty winds. The main timing for storms looks to be during the afternoon and evening.
The weather pattern is unsettled, and it is not going to change soon. Rain chances will decrease next week, but temperatures will climb into the low to mid 90s. It is a good idea to stay informed and prepared.
