Stow-Munroe Falls High School is on the hunt for a new football coach after Martin Poder stepped down. Poder, who was also the at-risk coordinator at the school, is switching gears and going back to the private sector. He's taking on a new role as a regional sales manager, which means he'll be traveling a lot. This decision wasn't easy for him, especially since he's been involved with the school's football program for a while. Poder's coaching record at Stow wasn't stellar, with a 7-33 win-loss tally. But before that, he had a better run at Brecksville, with a 25-14 record. He also served as the offensive coordinator at Stow under coach Mark Nori from 2013 to 2017, when the team had a strong 49-10 record. Despite his recent struggles, Poder is known for his commitment to the community and his players.
The school's athletic director, Cyle Feldman, praised Poder for his work beyond the field. He highlighted Poder's efforts in getting players involved in community service and his focus on building a positive culture. Even though Poder is leaving, he's offered to help with the transition to ensure the team doesn't lose momentum. The search for a new coach is now open to both internal and external candidates. Applications are being accepted until January 2nd. The school plans to conduct interviews in mid-January and aims to recommend a new coach to the board of education by early February. Feldman emphasized the importance of having coaches who are connected with and visible to students. Poder's departure marks the end of an era, but it also opens up new opportunities for Stow-Munroe Falls High School. The school is looking for a coach who can build on the foundation Poder laid and take the football program to new heights.
