Fans of "Stranger Things" are excited about a secret ninth episode. But, Netflix and the show's creators, the Duffer brothers, haven't confirmed this. The show's social media profiles clearly state that all episodes are out.
The theory, called "Conformity Gate, " has taken over the internet. Fans think the Duffer brothers might have another episode hidden. They believe this episode could change the ending, showing that Vecna, the main villain, didn't really die. Instead, he might have been controlling everything, even breaking the fourth wall.
Fans found clues in the finale episode. For example, the graduation gowns were orange, not the usual Hawkins High colors of green and yellow. Plus, many extras were wearing glasses like Vecna's. Set design changes also caught their eye, like a doorknob in the wrong place and a dial at the radio station that changed colors.
Some fans even spotted a stack of cassette tapes in the finale. They think the tapes spell out "U DID NOT STOP ME" in Morse code. This idea got more attention when the "Stranger Things" TikTok page posted a video of Mr. Clarke, a teacher, standing in front of a clock set to 1:07. Fans took this to mean the secret episode would drop on January 7 at 8 p. m. ET, the same time as previous episodes.
The theory goes deeper. Fans believe Vecna might not have been defeated. Instead, the main characters could be under his mind control, living in a fake ending he created. This isn't the first time fans have had wild theories about the show. After the release of Volume 2, some thought the episodes had been tampered with. A Google doc listing allegedly cut scenes went viral, and a petition demanding the release of "unseen footage" got over 390, 000 signatures.
The Duffer brothers shut down these theories in an interview. They said the Google doc was fake and there were no cut scenes. They also mentioned how big the show has become and how much misinformation spreads online. They joked they could spend hours debunking false theories.
