Students' Views on AI Robots in Long-Term Care

LTC HomesThu Jan 23 2025
The future of aging might look a lot different with the help of AI. University students think so too, especially when it comes to using AI service robots in places where older adults live, like long-term care homes. These homes already face staff shortages, and that's where AI robots like Aether could step in. Researchers wanted to know what students thought about this idea, so they had focus groups with 22 university students. The students saw robots as great companions and helpers for staff. But they also pointed out some challenges, like feeling awkward talking to a robot or worrying about technology glitches. They had some clever solutions too, like adding more features to the robot and making it feel more personal. Overall, students were optimistic about AI in aging care but also wanted to make sure it's done right.
