Nine people lost their lives after Israeli aircraft targeted areas in northern and southern Gaza. In the north, a tent camp that sheltered displaced families was struck. Four residents were killed there. In the south, a strike hit Khan Younis and caused five deaths. Israeli officials say they were responding to attacks from Hamas fighters. They claim the fighters came out of a tunnel east of the yellow line, a boundary set by a ceasefire. The Israeli army says it was a precise attack that follows international rules. Both sides blame each other for breaking the ceasefire. Hamas says Israel violated the deal, while Israel accuses Hamas of pushing beyond the agreed line.
The U. S. had earlier tried to enforce this truce. On Saturday, the Israeli military reported finding armed militants near its soldiers in northern Gaza. They destroyed a tunnel and fired on a building where two fighters were killed. The army believes more militants may have been eliminated in that attack. Since the ceasefire began, Gaza’s health ministry reports about 600 deaths from Israeli fire. Israel says four of its soldiers were killed by militants in Gaza during the same period. The conflict continues to raise questions about civilian safety and the effectiveness of peace agreements.
