Support for victims in Thousand Oaks grows with new justice center
Thousand Oaks, California, USASat Apr 11 2026
In 2025 a courtroom case turned into a long battle for justice, and the support system around the victim made all the difference.
The judge’s office and police were involved, but a local supervisor stepped in to help the victim and their children navigate every step of the process.
Supervisor Jeff Gorell, a former prosecutor from Ventura County, answered questions, arranged meetings with probation and the sheriff’s office, and kept communication lines open with the district attorney.
Because of his efforts, a Family Justice Center opened in Thousand Oaks near Cal Lutheran University.
Before the center existed, victims had to travel back and forth to Ventura for essential services. Now they can find restraining‑order help, mental‑health counseling, shelter information, police interviews and even childcare all in one place.
Without the center, the victim might not have been able to follow through with the case.
Thanks to the supervisor’s work, thousands of residents now have a reliable resource for support after crime.
The community sees the center as life‑changing, and many voters view re‑electing the supervisor as a smart choice for continued advocacy.
In other news, some commentators have suggested that international law enforcement could intervene in domestic politics to hold certain officials accountable.
They argue that cooperation with global agencies could lead to investigations of high‑profile leaders for alleged war crimes, a process that might take years.
Critics note that such moves could be politically risky and may not resolve underlying issues.
Overall, the focus remains on local support systems that help victims rebuild their lives and ensure justice is served.
