In a chilling case that has sent shockwaves through the nation's capital, a 76-year-old Alaskan man has been accused of sending a barrage of graphic threats against six Supreme Court justices and their family members. Panos Anastasiou, who has pleaded not guilty, allegedly made more than 465 threatening messages to the high court between March 2023 and July 2024. According to court filings, Anastasiou's messages became increasingly menacing over time, with some even threatening to assassinate the justices. He also used racial, homophobic, and misogynistic slurs in his statements, which were aimed at a justice identified as "Supreme Court Justice 1" in the indictment. It is believed that this justice is Clarence Thomas, who is African American.
The threats were made through the Supreme Court's public website, and Anastasiou's messages were laced with vitriol and hatred. In one instance, he allegedly made a lynching threat and used the N-word in a statement aimed at Justice Thomas. These messages are a stark reminder of the dark side of disagreement and the need for public officials to be protected from such threats.
