BBC's upcoming romantic comedy series, 'Film Club', is gaining some notable cast members. Aimee-Lou Wood, known for her role in 'Sex Education', is penning the show with Ralph Davis ('House of the Dragon'), who will also star in it. The cast is expanding to include Suranne Jones ('Vigil', 'Doctor Foster'), Nabhaan Rizwan from the recently cancelled Netflix drama 'Kaos', Adam Long ('Happy Valley', 'Masters of the Air'), and Liv Hill ('Three Girls', 'The Serpent Queen'). Filming for 'Film Club' has started in Manchester, with plans to air it next year on BBC iPlayer and BBC Three, and later on ZDFneo in Germany. Gaumont UK is producing the series, while Fremantle is handling international sales. The show was first announced back in February. At the heart of the plot is Evie (Wood), who hasn't left her home in six months due to a personal struggle. She runs a film club in her garage with her best friend Noa (Rizwan) and anyone who joins them. When Noa gets a job that takes him far away, they must decide if their friendship is more than that. Evie's eccentric family adds more complexity to her life. Her family includes Suz (Jones), a fiercely loving single mum; Izzie (Hill), her sister; and Josh (Long), her sometimes present boyfriend. Davis, the co-creator, plays Dominic, the newest member of the film club. 'Film Club' marks another big project for Wood. Recently, the BBC ordered a second season of 'Daddy Issues', where she stars alongside David Morrissey. She will also appear in Season 3 of 'The White Lotus' for HBO and in Carl Tibbetts' crime-thriller 'Sweet Dreams'. Wood expressed her excitement about the show, saying, "I’m thrilled that our beloved TV series Film Club, a project that Ralph and I have been writing for the past decade, starts shooting this week. We couldn’t be more excited, and grateful, to the incredible team we have assembled with the BBC. To bring this to life with Nabhaan and Suranne, two exceptional actors I have always admired, is a real honour. " Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, added, "We’re so happy to welcome Nabhaan, Suranne and this incredibly exciting cast. Aimee and Ralph’s heartwarming, feel-good and utterly charming scripts have made Film Club a hot ticket for BBC viewers and we can’t wait for it to arrive on BBC iPlayer and BBC Three next year. " Salt commissioned 'Film Club' (6×30) along with Fiona Campbell, Controller Youth Audience, BBC Three and BBC iPlayer. Anna Jordan ('One Day', 'Killing Eve') is contributing to the writing team for episode four. Gaumont UK is producing the series, with support from Germany’s ZDFneo. Stella Merz ('Gentleman Jack', 'Renegade Nell') is producing, and Catherine Morshead ('Daddy Issues', 'The Full Monty') will be directing. Executive producers include Wood, Alison Jackson, Jamie Jackson for Gaumont, and Nawfal Faizullah for the BBC.
