Surprising Twin Shootings in Deep Ellum Leave One Dead and Five Hurt

A shooting at the corner of Commerce Street and Malcolm X Boulevard knocked out three people early on Tuesday night. Police arrived before 10:30 p. m. , found the victims, and sent them to a nearby hospital. They are expected to live. Later that night, two more people were taken by private cars to the same hospital. Investigators think they were hit in the same burst of gunfire. The police are looking at cameras and talking to witnesses to see if any of the injured knew each other. The first attack seemed to start from a fight among several people. Some of the wounded were just walking by and got caught in the crossfire.A few minutes after the first scene was cleared, officers heard another gunshot at 12:30 a. m. The second blast happened near the La Tardeada Club on Elm Street. A security guard was hit in the chest while escorting someone out of the club. The guard, 26 years old, was taken to a nearby hospital by a police car. He died there. Police think he was shot from very close range. The department has arrested one man and found a gun, but they are still checking if he fired the shots. Both scenes have been cleaned up. The investigations continue. Several injured people are still in treatment at Baylor University Medical Center.
