In the quiet town of Lexington, South Carolina, a disturbing incident took place. A young man, named Daniel Peter Ferguson, from Hiddenite, North Carolina, was finally caught and brought to justice. The trouble started when a child, under the age of 11, reported that Ferguson had assaulted them. This happened way back in January 2023.
When the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department arrived at the scene, they found clear evidence. There were explicit photos and text messages on the child's device. It was clear that the victim was too distressed to talk about what happened.
What makes this case even more concerning is the way Ferguson entered the house. He managed to slip in through the basement door and stayed from midnight until morning. The victim had told Ferguson they were 14, but that didn't stop him.
Interestingly, the family had reported a suspicious vehicle at their address in 2022. This vehicle was later found to be registered to Ferguson. Yet, it took over a year for the authorities to arrest him.
Ferguson was finally caught by the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office, with help from the U. S. Marshals Service, on December 5th. He was then transferred to Lexington County and booked into the detention center on December 20th. He faces serious charges: criminal sexual conduct with a minor under 11 and solicitation of a minor.
The law in South Carolina is tough on such crimes. If found guilty, Ferguson could face a sentence of 25 years to life in prison. It's a harsh reminder of the consequences of such actions.
This case raises questions about the speed of the investigation and the safety of our children. It’s important to ask why it took so long to bring Ferguson to justice. After all, every day matters when it comes to protecting the innocent.
