Suspicious Car Incident in Zhuhai: Driver Detained After Hitting Crowd

In the city of Zhuhai, located in southern China, police have detained a 62-year-old man following a puzzling incident. The man allegedly drove a car into a group of people exercising at a local sports center and then took off. The incident, which occurred on Monday evening, left more than 20 people injured, according to one of the hospitals treating the victims. Police have identified the suspect by his last name, Fan, in line with the usual practice by Chinese authorities. They mentioned that the vehicle knocked down several pedestrians, but it's unclear whether this was an intentional attack or a tragic accident. No motive has been provided, and investigations are ongoing.The sports center, located in the Xiangzhou district, is a popular spot that attracts hundreds of residents daily. Due to the incident, the center has temporarily closed its doors until further notice. This isn't the first time China has seen such incidents. In the past, there have been attacks where suspects seemingly targeted random individuals, including schoolchildren. In October, a 50-year-old man was detained in Beijing after allegedly using a knife to attack children at a school, injuring five.
