This: a gaming accessories maker, Genki, is showing off a 3D mockup of the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 at the recent Consumer Electronics Show (CES). French publication Numerama reported that according to Genki, the new console is set to launch in April. The mockup displays several features, such as Joy-Con controllers that attach via magnets and a mysterious "C" button on the right Joy-Con.
Genki believes the rumored optical sensor on the Joy-Con is real but isn't sure about the "C" button's purpose. Recently, images supposedly showing the Joy-Con of the Switch 2 surfaced online, revealing larger SL and SR buttons and electromagnetic suction controllers instead of railed locks. These images were first shared on a Chinese social media website and later spread to the Nintendo Switch 2 subreddit and other platforms.
Further, an image of the Switch 2's internal components was leaked, aligning with previous reports of a larger screen, magnetic Joy-Con, and USB-C ports on the console. The hardware is rumored to have 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, significant upgrades from the original Switch.
A patent filed in July 2023 suggests the Switch 2 will use AI for image upscaling, allowing for 4K textures on physical game cartridges. Nintendo has confirmed that the Switch 2 will be backward-compatible and feature Nintendo Switch Online. The company plans to announce the console by the end of March 2025 and expects plenty of stock to combat scalping.
