Switch 2: Most Games Work, But Some Have Hiccups
USATue May 27 2025
The Nintendo Switch 2 is almost here, and gamers are eager to know which games will run smoothly. Nintendo has been busy testing a huge number of games to ensure they work on the new console. So far, about 75% of the more than 15, 000 third-party Switch games have been given a thumbs up after basic testing. This means most games should work just fine on the Switch 2.
However, there are some games that have issues. Nintendo has identified 118 games that have problems starting up on the Switch 2. There are also 50 games that start but have some in-game compatibility issues. Additionally, 54 games have issues that Nintendo plans to fix by the time the console launches or shortly after.
Some software won't work at all on the Switch 2. This includes Nintendo Labo Toy-Con, Niconico, Abema, Hulu, Crunchyroll, and InkyPen. Games that require the original Joy-Con controllers, like Ring Fit Adventure and 1-2-Switch, can be played on the Switch 2. But players will need to use the original Joy-Con controllers for full compatibility.
The Switch 2 is set to launch next week, and pictures of the consoles have already started appearing online. The console will come with Mario Kart World, a new open-world take on the popular karting franchise. Earlier this month, Nintendo announced free updates for 12 of its existing Switch games. These updates will be available at launch and include popular titles like Super Mario Odyssey, Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, and The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.
It's important to note that while most games should work fine, there are still some kinks to work out. Gamers should keep an eye on Nintendo's list of compatible games and updates. This way, they can be sure their favorite games will run smoothly on the Switch 2. It's also a good idea to think about which games are worth playing on the new console. Some games might not be worth the hassle if they have compatibility issues.
The Switch 2 is an exciting new console, but it's not perfect. Nintendo has done a lot of work to ensure most games will run smoothly. However, there are still some games that have issues. Gamers should do their research and be prepared for some potential hiccups. But overall, the Switch 2 looks like a great new console with a lot to offer.
