Sycamore Boys Blank DeKalb 2-0 to Claim Tournament Win

The Spartans came out on top at the NIU Rec Fields during BarbFest, shutting out DeKalb 2-0. Goals from Maddux McLaughlin and Ben Fitzenreider sealed the win. Andre Crouch and Leo Padilla set up the plays with assists. Goalkeeper Connor Busch kept a clean sheet and earned a spot on the all-tournament team.

Over in the Oregon/Stillman Valley tournament, Genoa-Kingston wrapped up play with a 2-1-1 record. Their final match ended in a 6-1 victory over co-host Stillman Valley, powered by a hat trick from Ayden Hernandez. Park Netzer, Ulises Ayala Zavala, and Chris Modesto each found the net as well. Friday had started rough with a 5-2 loss to Peoria Richwoods, where Modesto and Hernandez scored. The team bounced back Saturday, tying Marengo 1-1 on another Modesto goal. Their first tournament win came against Princeton, 4-0, with Hernandez, Logan Boehning, Edgar Olivares, and Josh Gutierrez all scoring.

On the volleyball court, Indian Creek competed in the Ottawa tournament and finished 1-3. Their only win came in the final match against IMSA, a Little 10 rival, with scores of 25-13, 14-25, 15-9. The Timberwolves, now 2-4 on the season, dropped matches to Lexington, Byron, and Streator. Stat leaders included Ally Keilman with 17 assists, 17 kills, and 18 digs. Kendra Buh added 15 kills and four digs. Taylor Edwards posted 14 kills, Elsie Betz tallied 20 assists, and McKenzie Greer led the defense with 21 digs.

In cross country action at the Kane County Invitational held at Settler's Hill Golf Course, Kaneland edged Yorkville by six points to win the team title with 42. Nolan Reutimann led the Knights with a fourth-place finish in 15:47.3, setting a personal best. Teammates Joey Schuch and Gavin Schnurstein also cracked the top 10 in 16:17.1 and 16:22.1, with Schnurstein also setting a new personal best. Geneva and St. Charles East rounded out the top four team spots.
