In Syria, something big just happened. Islamist rebels, led by a group called Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), have stormed into some neighborhoods of Aleppo, the country's second-largest city. They've been fighting the government's military forces since Friday. This is a big deal because it's the first time in four years that opposition forces have gotten this close to Aleppo since a ceasefire ended a really intense fight back in 2016.
The rebels seem to be taking advantage of some weaknesses among their enemies, like the Iran-backed group Hezbollah. They've even managed to take control of some towns and villages on their way to Aleppo, which has got everyone's attention, both in Syria and around the world.
The clashes have been intense, with both sides using missiles and guns. Local people are running from the danger, especially in the western parts of the city. An insurgent leader even posted a message online, asking the city's residents to work with the rebels.
But the Syrian armed forces haven't just been standing there. They're fighting back and have managed to take back some areas. They've said they've caused lots of damage to the rebels, including killing and injuring many and destroying lots of their vehicles and drones.
This whole situation has been going on for over a decade now. It all started when people protested against President Bashar al-Assad, and things have gotten really violent since then.
