T-Mobile has announced another round of price increases for some of its older plans. This time, the boost is $5 per line, and it will show up on bills starting in April or May. The company's president, Jon Freier, sent out a memo to employees explaining the change. He mentioned that the increase is due to rising costs over the years. This isn't the first time T-Mobile has done this. They did it last June, and other carriers like Verizon and AT&T have also raised their prices recently. Freier stated that customers who are affected will be notified by March 13.
The increase won't apply to everyone. Those with T-Mobile's current plans, like Go5G, Go5G Plus, and Go5G Next, won't see any changes. Neither will those with a Price Lock guarantee or a promotional free line. However, the exact number of affected customers is unclear. T-Mobile has not specified which legacy plans are included in this increase.
Freier assured customers that no line which received a prior increase will see another adjustment. So, if a customer's plan was increased last year, they won't see another hike this time. The memo also mentioned that some customers might see an adjustment on an older phone plan if they had a price increase on other products, like a cellular watch plan. But the new $5 increase won't be added on top of that; it could be applied to another line on the same account.
T-Mobile promises that all existing benefits and rate plan types will remain the same, even with the increase. In the past, customers had the option to contact support and push back against being moved to newer, higher-priced plans. But this time, the increase will be automatically added to affected accounts. This leaves customers with limited options if they want to avoid the price hike.
