A new stage drama by Quentin Tarantino is moving toward the West End. Sonia Friedman Productions, known for popular shows like Paddington: The Musical and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, has teamed up with Sony Pictures Entertainment to bring “The Popinjay Cavalier” to life. The play is described as a lively, comedic adventure that mixes deception and disguise with the flair of classic swashbuckling tales. Set in 1830s Europe, it promises a bold celebration of theatre’s romance, delivered with Tarantino’s sharp wit and unique style. The production is scheduled to open in London around early 2027.Tarantino announced last summer that he was writing a play and expected to spend about one and a half to two years on it. He said the project would begin in January, hinting at a 2027 debut. While his next film work is expected to be David Fincher’s “The Adventures of Cliff Booth, ” the stage play will likely bring his distinctive storytelling to a new medium. Industry observers hope the production might even find a place at the Venice Film Festival, following Fincher and Netflix’s earlier success with “The Killer. ”
