In New Jersey, a dispute between teachers and the South Orange-Maplewood school district has heated up. Teachers from the SOMEA union took to the streets of South Orange, carrying signs with messages like "Settle Now! " and "We Are Worthy. " They also attended a board meeting in Maplewood to voice their concerns.
The main issue is pay. The teachers' union believes they deserve more money, but the district has other ideas. SOMEA has been keeping everyone updated about the negotiations on their website and social media pages.
Some school board members have shared their thoughts online too. Arun Vadlamani, who is running for re-election, posted his analysis of the situation. He made sure to note that he was not speaking for the whole board. The teachers' union didn't agree with all of what Vadlamani said and responded on social media as well.
Patch tried to get a comment from the school district about the rally and the contract talks but hasn't received a response yet.
