Tech Titans Clash: Altman Brushes Off Musk's GPT-5 Jabs
USATue Aug 12 2025
Sam Altman and Elon Musk's rivalry took another turn recently. It all started when Microsoft announced plans to integrate OpenAI's GPT-5 into its products. Musk quickly reacted on X, claiming that OpenAI would "eat Microsoft alive. " But Microsoft's CEO, Satya Nadella, wasn't worried. He even joked about it, mentioning how companies have been trying to outdo each other for decades.
Altman, however, didn't engage with Musk's comments. During an interview, he simply said he doesn't think about Musk much. He even questioned what Musk meant by his comment, recalling how Musk often criticizes OpenAI on X.
This isn't the first time the two have clashed. They co-founded OpenAI together in 2015, but their paths diverged when OpenAI shifted to a for-profit model. Musk has since been vocal about his disapproval, even suing OpenAI and attempting to buy the company. Altman, however, remains focused on moving forward with GPT-5's integration into Microsoft's ecosystem.
The rivalry between these tech giants continues, with each taking shots at the other. But for now, Altman seems to be keeping his cool, brushing off Musk's comments and focusing on innovation.
