Teen Charged With Random Killing in Massachusetts
Danvers, Massachusetts, USAFri Mar 13 2026
An 18‑year‑old high school senior was taken into custody without bail after police said he admitted to murdering a 69‑year‑old woman in Danvers. The suspect, who is still under investigation, confessed to the crime during a police interview in Salem District Court. A psychologist expressed concern about his mental state, and he was sent to a state hospital for further evaluation.
The investigation began when officers received a call about a man with a knife walking on Standish Road. Witnesses described the suspect as behaving erratically and cutting through bushes near their home. When police stopped him, they found blood on the knife and noted his unstable demeanor.
Later, court documents revealed that the suspect told officers he had killed a woman in Danvers the night before. He claimed to have planned the act for a long time and wanted to kill someone. The police traced him to the victim’s house, where they found her dead in a bedroom.
The suspect allegedly entered the home through a window, removed a screen, and climbed into the kitchen. He reported finding a sleeping woman in one of the bedrooms, then stabbed her in the neck and dragged her to the floor. After finishing the act, he left the house and drove back to his own home in Lynn.
The victim was a long‑time resident of Danvers, divorced, and survived by two adult sons. Officials emphasized that there was no known connection between the suspect and the victim, describing the crime as a random act of violence. The case remains complex due to its unexpected nature.
The senior attends Bishop Fenwick High School, where the administration has stated they are cooperating fully with law enforcement. They also noted that no other students were involved and the incident poses no threat to the school community. Counseling services are available for staff and students.
