Tensions Rise as Israel Strikes Beirut
Lebanon, BeirutMon Nov 24 2025
In a move that could stir up more trouble, Israel hit a spot in Beirut, Lebanon's capital, for the first time in months. They claimed to have taken out a big shot in Hezbollah, a group backed by Iran. This strike happened just a year after a shaky truce ended the last round of fighting between Israel and Hezbollah.
Five people died, and 25 got hurt, according to Lebanon's Health Ministry. Hezbollah hasn't said much yet, but they warned this could lead to more attacks. Israel, meanwhile, said they'll keep doing what they think is necessary to keep their people safe.
The guy Israel targeted, Haytham Tabtabai, was a high-ranking official in Hezbollah. He led some of their elite forces and was working to get them ready for more fighting. The U. S. had already labeled him a terrorist and put a price on info about him.
Israel says Hezbollah has been breaking the ceasefire, and this strike was their response. But Lebanon's president said Israel isn't holding up their end of the deal and wants the world to step in.
This isn't the first time Israel has hit Lebanon recently. They've been stepping up attacks in the south, saying Hezbollah is trying to rebuild their military power. Lebanon says they're ready to talk and disarm groups like Hezbollah, but it's not clear if Israel is on board.
The last war between Israel and Hezbollah did a lot of damage. Thousands died, and billions of dollars in destruction left its mark. Now, with another strike and more tension, people are worried about what comes next.
