Tensions Rise: Japan's Missile Plan Sparks China's Ire
Yonaguni, JapanMon Nov 24 2025
China has strongly criticized Japan's decision to place missiles on an island close to Taiwan. This move has added fuel to the fire in an already heated diplomatic dispute between the two countries.
Japan's Prime Minister recently suggested that a Chinese attack on Taiwan could prompt a military response from Japan. China did not take this lightly. The Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson accused Japan's right-wing groups of pushing the region towards disaster.
Japan's Defense Minister confirmed that plans to deploy missiles on Yonaguni Island, just 110 km from Taiwan, are progressing. China sees this as a dangerous escalation. They warned that Japan's actions could worry neighboring countries and the international community.
China has already taken steps to show its displeasure. They have banned Japanese seafood, stopped Japanese movie releases, and advised citizens not to visit Japan. Earlier, China's defense ministry had warned Japan of a crushing military defeat if it intervened in Taiwan.
Beijing claims Taiwan as its own territory. However, Taiwan's government disagrees, stating that only the people of Taiwan can decide their future. Taiwan's Deputy Foreign Minister supported Japan's right to protect its territory. He also noted that Japan's actions could help maintain security in the Taiwan Strait.
Japan's Defense Minister explained that the missile deployment is to protect Yonaguni Island. He believes this will reduce the chances of an armed attack against Japan.
