Tesla's EV Sales Dip: What's Going On?

Tesla's electric vehicle (EV) sales in the U. S. are taking a hit. November 2025 saw fewer than 40, 000 new Teslas sold, a 23% drop from the same month last year. The Cybertruck, which has been underperforming since its launch, only sold about 1, 200 units in November, the lowest so far this year.
To boost sales before the federal tax credit ended on Sept. 30, Tesla introduced the Model 3 Standard and Model Y Standard. However, these cheaper versions were criticized for their slower charging speeds, obvious cost-cutting, and still high prices. Despite offering 0% financing and aggressive lease deals, sales haven't picked up as expected.
The Standard models are also hurting Tesla's profits. Analysts say these cheaper versions are taking sales away from the more expensive and profitable Model 3 and Model Y.
Overall, U. S. new EV sales were down 40% in November compared to the same month last year. Tesla's Model 3 saw a 42% drop in sales. Other automakers like Honda and Hyundai also reported declines in EV sales.
The full picture of the EV market in 2025 will be clear in January when automakers start reporting their full-year sales. The current focus on gas-powered vehicles by the White House and Congress may also be affecting the EV market.
