Texas THC Ban: Governor Says No to Strict Rules
Texas, Austin, USAMon Jun 23 2025
Texas Governor Greg Abbott made a big decision. He said no to a bill that would have banned all THC products in the state. This means people can still buy THC-infused vapes, gummies, and other items.
The bill would have been one of the toughest in the country. It would have made it a crime to own, make, or sell these products. But Abbott vetoed it at the last minute.
Why did he do this? Well, THC products are huge business in Texas. They bring in a lot of money and create jobs. Plus, many people use these products for relief, even if they can't get medical marijuana.
Some lawmakers say these products are dangerous. They think there should be more rules because there isn't enough oversight. Other states have put age limits and potency restrictions on THC products.
But critics of the bill say it would have hurt people who rely on these products. They also say it would have been bad for small businesses. Last year, Florida's governor vetoed a similar bill for the same reasons.
Texas has some of the strictest marijuana laws in the country. But the THC market has given people a way to access products that give a similar high. It's a tricky situation, and the governor's veto keeps the debate going.
