The Assistant's Alleged Role in a Dark Scheme
Jennifer Powers, 45, a former assistant to finance bigwig Howard Rubin, is now facing serious charges. She is accused of sex trafficking and transporting women across state lines for illicit activities.
Lavish Lifestyle Funded by Former Boss
Powers allegedly enjoyed a luxurious lifestyle, funded by Rubin. The indictment claims he covered her expenses from 2018 to 2023, including:
- Manhattan apartments
- Credit card bills
- Private school tuition for her children
Powers and her husband, Stephen, are also accused of tax evasion, reporting only $40,000 in income from Stephen's DJ business over two years, despite allegedly receiving millions from Rubin.
Recruiting Vulnerable Women
Powers allegedly played a key role in recruiting women for Rubin, many of whom had histories of abuse or addiction. The encounters reportedly took place in Rubin's Central Park penthouse, in a room dubbed "The Dungeon."
- Soundproofed room
- Paid sex acts beyond consent
- Victims suffered severe physical trauma
- Legal threats silenced complaints
FBI Condemns Alleged Exploitation
Christopher Raia, FBI assistant director for New York, stated that the defendants exploited Rubin's status to trap victims. The case involves severe physical trauma and legal intimidation.
Legal Troubles and Current Status
Rubin is also accused of paying Powers' legal fees from a 2017 lawsuit by Playboy models, who accused him of abuse. A jury found Rubin liable, awarding the women $3.9 million, which he is appealing.
- Powers released on $850,000 bond
- House arrest with ankle monitor
- Former substitute teacher in Texas
- Rubin remains in custody without bail
