The Big Beautiful Bill: What's In It For You?
USASun Jul 06 2025
The Big Beautiful Bill is now law, and it's a big deal. It's not just about taxes. It's about who gets help and who gets left behind.
First, let's talk taxes. The wealthy will save a lot. We're talking an average of $12, 000. But the poor? They'll pay more. Around $1, 600 extra each year. That's because of cuts to Medicaid and food aid.
There are some new tax breaks too. Tips, overtime, and auto loans get deductions. Older adults making less than $75, 000 can deduct $6, 000. The child tax credit goes up to $2, 200. But many low-income families still won't get the full credit.
Businesses get a break too. They can write off 100% of equipment and research costs. That's good for the economy, right? Maybe. But what about the people who need help the most?
Now, let's talk border security. The bill puts $350 billion towards it. That includes a border wall, more detention beds, and even signing bonuses for new ICE agents. Immigrants will pay for some of this through new or increased fees.
But what about clean energy? The bill cuts tax breaks for wind and solar. The electric vehicle tax break? Gone by September 30. That's a big change from the original plan of 2032.
How's all this being paid for? By cutting Medicaid and food assistance. Millions will have to meet work requirements or pay more for healthcare. The CBO says 11. 8 million will be uninsured by 2034. And 3 million will lose food stamps.
So, what's the big picture? The wealthy and businesses get breaks. The poor pay more. Border security gets a boost. Clean energy takes a hit. It's a mixed bag. But one thing's clear: the Big Beautiful Bill is not so beautiful for everyone.
