The world of The Batman is expanding, and fans are eager to see what's next for the Caped Crusader and his allies. Director Matt Reeves has been teasing the idea of an epic crime saga, and now, with the premiere of The Penguin, we're getting a glimpse into what that might look like. But what can we expect from the next chapter?
Reeves has been hinting at spin-off shows, and while The Penguin is the first to premiere, it's not the only one on the horizon. In fact, Reeves has been working on evolving versions of the previously pitched shows about the Gotham City PD and Arkham Asylum. "It's not like that just didn't work," Reeves said in an interview. "It was like, we need to evolve this. I would describe it less as something that didn't work out and more as something that is still along a path toward arriving at its destination. "
So, what does this mean for fans? It means that we can expect more shows based on some of the ideas that were in those original pitches. But will we see Robert Pattinson's Batman again? Reeves hasn't ruled it out completely. While Batman won't be appearing in The Penguin, he did briefly consider including the Dark Knight. And who knows, maybe we'll see him in another series. "That's not to say that there would never be an appearance by Batman or Bruce or something like that [on a future series]," Reeves said. "But that was an afterthought. "
Meanwhile, Reeves has been hard at work on The Batman Part 2, finishing the script and planning to begin filming next year. The sequel will jump forward in time after the events of The Penguin, and Oz will be one of the entry points into the movie. "There's a period of time," Reeves said. "I can't tell you where it goes from there, except to say that we're super excited about it. " The Batman Part 2 is set to hit theaters on October 2, 2026.
