The Dating Game Gone Wrong: A True Crime Story
Los Angeles, USASat Oct 26 2024
Rodney Alcala, known for his appearances on "The Dating Game" show, was a serial killer who fooled many. He even tricked show producers and contestants into thinking he was harmless. A recent Netflix movie, "Woman of the Hour, " directed by Anna Kendrick, is causing a stir. One of Alcala's survivors, Morgan Rowan, isn't happy with the way the story is being told.
In 1978, Alcala was on the rise as a killer and somehow also won a dating game show. He convinced show contestant Cheryl Bradshaw to pick him as a date, but she never went through with it. That's because she found him creepy. The Netflix movie changes this key detail, showing Bradshaw going on a date with Alcala. Rowan, who was attacked by Alcala back in 1968, spoke out about this. She doesn't like how the movie is rewriting history and giving Alcala more attention.
Alcala's crimes are horrifying. He lives on in infamy, even after his death in 2021. Authorities believe he killed over 100 people, using his photography skills to lure victims. His time on a dating show adds a chilling layer to his story. But changing the facts for entertainment isn't right, says Rowan. She feels her story is being changed too, and that's not fair.
