The Evolution of Justin Fields: A New Role Emerges in a Snowy Game

Pittsburgh, USAFri Nov 22 2024
Since switching quarterbacks, the Steelers have been planning to use Justin Fields in specific situations. Last Thursday's game finally showed a glimpse of those plans. Fields got a chance to play in the first and fourth quarters, with mixed results. In the first quarter, he was stopped just short of a first down on a fourth down run. But in the fourth quarter, he had a 30-yard run and drew a roughing the passer penalty, which helped set up a touchdown. Later, with just minutes left and the Browns turning over the ball, Fields was called back in. However, he couldn't move the chains and threw an incomplete pass on third down. After the game, Fields admitted he felt rusty due to spending most of the game on the sideline, but he’s happy to contribute. Coach Mike Tomlin also clarified that the snowy weather didn’t influence their decision to increase Fields' playing time. Instead, it might have been a response to the offense’s struggle to score since Week 10. It seems Fields could now play a bigger role in trying to boost their scoring output.
