In the world of Wikipedia, the concept of reliable sources is open to interpretation. A recent change to the "List of Executive Branch Czars" article highlights this issue. Prior to July 24, Kamala Harris was listed as part of the article, but after that date, her name vanished. This disappearance is attributed to the way Wikipedia classifies sources. While "outright leftist or socialist outlets" are considered mainstream, "conservative outlets like Fox News" are viewed as unreliable. This approach injects bias into the encyclopedia. Wikipedia, a testament to human collaboration and achievement, may be fated to achieve the opposite of its founders' intentions.
On a different front, former President Trump's assertion that crime is on the rise has been proven correct. In the Trump-Harris debate, ABC moderator David Muir claimed that violent crime is decreasing, but new data from the Bureau of Justice Statistics shows otherwise. The Washington Examiner's editorial board fact-checks revealed that Trump is right about crime, while Muir is wrong. Under President Biden, the FBI's methodology for reporting crime has become more complicated, leading to some cities failing to report crime altogether. Crime rates are higher under the Biden-Harris administration than during Trump's presidency.
In New York State, health insurance premiums have skyrocketed, with an average increase of 13%. Small-group policies rose 8%, outpacing inflation. Albany's heavy-handed taxation and regulation drive up health coverage costs, making it difficult for consumers to afford. A new proposal to eliminate copayments for asthma inhalers would further exacerbate the issue.
In the world of culture, a new film, "Am I a Racist? ", exposes the "anti-racist" movement for what it is - a racket. The film's creator, Matt Walsh, poses as a liberal activist seeking the counsel of unsuspecting diversity experts, revealing the flaws in their programs. The film may prompt companies to reevaluate their diversity initiatives, which studies show do little to address racial bias.
On social media, the recent decision by Meta's oversight board to legitimize the slogan "from the river to the sea" is problematic. This phrase is often used by Palestinian terrorist organizations and sympathizers to express hatred toward Israel and reject the Jewish people's right to self-determination. In this charged environment, the slogan has become an integral part of the scenery and increasingly dangerous.
