The Impact of Intense Training on Female Basketball Players' Leg Power
USAWed Jan 15 2025
You're a collegiate basketball player, training hard for the season ahead. Now, think about how your leg power might change if you reduce the amount of training you do but make each session super intense. That's exactly what a recent study explored. Researchers checked how female basketball players' jumping performance changed when they switched from high-volume to high-intensity training. They tested the players' vertical jumps and hopping skills before and during a three-week training block. Surprisingly, the players' performance dipped at first, but then it bounced back, showing even better leg power after some time. This might mean that super intense but shorter training sessions can really boost the legs' ability to quickly react and jump. So, maybe less can be more when it comes to training for basketball.
