The Lowline Hotel: Charleston’s New Style Stay
Charleston, South Carolina, USAWed Mar 11 2026
A hotel on Upper King Street is changing its look and name this summer. The former Hyatt Place, a 191‑room spot next to the Hyatt House, will open as The Lowline Hotel after a full makeover.
Highline Hospitality Partners bought the two hotels for $113 million in 2024. They plan to give each a distinct feel: The Lowline will become a “lifestyle” destination with 197 rooms, a bar, a restaurant, a garden, a private dining room that even has a golf simulator, and eight thousand square feet of event space. The neighboring Hyatt House will stay focused on long‑term stays.
The new name pays tribute to the Lowcountry Lowline, a future two‑mile park and trail that will stretch across Charleston’s peninsula. By joining JdV by Hyatt, the hotel joins a group that celebrates “joy of life. ” Highline says they want the property to reflect Charleston’s heritage while meeting modern travelers’ desires.
The building is part of a historic pair that opened in 2015 as Charleston’s first dual‑branded hotel. Highline will seek city approval for the new signage on March 11 and expects to reopen in early summer. A nearby 175‑room project also eyed the Lowline name, but it remains a placeholder.
