The Newfound Risks of Government Data Privacy
Wed Feb 12 2025
The Trump administration's Department of Government Efficiency, known as DOGE, is considering new steps which could greatly impact data breaches in the US. A prominent data privacy group has taken action on these steps. The group is suing the government and DOGE, alleging that the agency has led to an unparalleled breach.
This situation highlightsdata privacy concerns involving DoGE, according to the group. They argue it has led to a breach of personal information which is unprecedented in the history of the U. S. This has been a leading cause forconcern and this could have huge consequences for federal workers and the general public. The Justice Department and Treasury Department have also been sued, and this is one of the many complaints in the current administration to reduce costs.
The group states that the government agencies have not followed the Federal Information Security Modernization Act and violated the Privacy Act. This act requires safeguards for sensitive data, and it is alleged this was not followed. An agency which is apparently led by Elon Musk has allegedly breached secure systems by accessing information it has no legal right to.

If accessed improperly, it can lead to severe consequences. Social security numbers from different funds processing and payment systems across Treasury’s Bureau of Fiscal Services are also at risk of unauthorized access.
The group is taking this matter to court to stop the misuse of the personal information, it seeks to ensure that there are no unauthorized disclosures of information. They are also demanding for Statutory and punitive damages to one of the plaintiffs whose personal information has been potentially accessed.
It is important to note that data breaches have been a growing concern for agencies.
