The OECD's Education Game Changer
Fri Feb 07 2025
So, imagine this: in the 80s, the OECD was a big fan of using science to guide policy. The OCDE had been around for a while but they wanted to know more about the relationship between theories and actions. This was when the INES program came into the picture. INES was this big deal in their dealings with broader education policy.
The OECD had been trying to come up with solutions to education challenges but this time it was different. They had to get more serious about evidence. Science and policy had been together for years, but INES was something new. They started making INES happen by making scientific evidence the main focus. I mean, they wanted to create a lot of indicators. Today, these indicators give huge insights into the world of education around the globe.
The OECD focused on indicators and indicators only, which created shifts. They became more than just a research hub. They took on a bigger role.
It helped them to develop the roadmap to become global education policy leaders. They used information from the program to make a huge impact.
But question is did they do a good job? Was there merit in this way of sharing knowledge? The OECD pointed towards a greater focus on research. The INES project became a key step for the organization. The OECD started to focus on comparing global education systems. Then they would evaluate success, and they would create data to make policies.
The plan was to make things clearer.
Through INES, the OECD started a large-scale education indicators. The OECD became the expert in the field. They became the go-to guys for global educational insights. The OECD evaluated all scales of education. They explored different levels of education.
INES was a big step for the OECD. It helped them to undertake many ambitious large-scale projects. They were a success and spurred a lot of attention. Developments led to rapid change in education policy. The OECD became a buzzword in education. The institution became a super giant.
So, we should think about this project in a historical context. The Organization for Economic Cooperation & Development connects science and policy.
This project was a huge success.
INES was all about making new relationships between policy making and institutions. INES contributed to everyone thinking differently. Educators and policy makers took on a fresh perspective. This helped people to rethink the interaction between science, teaching, and learning.
